Harbert European Growth Capital provides growth capital financing to high-growth small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) across Northern and Western Europe, operating from offices in London, Luxembourg, Paris, and Madrid as part of Harbert Management Corporation, based in Birmingham, Alabama. The firm targets later-stage companies, deploying debt investments to address high debt capital costs and limited competition within major tech clusters. Its Harbert European Growth Capital Fund I successfully closed at €122 million in 2015, having completed over 20 investments. This strategy operates under Harbert Management Corporation, an alternative asset platform managing approximately $8 billion in assets, with $6 billion in regulatory AUM reported in 2018. The fund is co-headed by David Bateman and Johan Kampe. Harbert European Growth Capital was formed in January 2013, as part of the platform founded by Raymond J. Harbert in 1993.
