Gate.io is a cryptocurrency trading platform and digital asset exchange originally based in China that provides global users with spot trading, derivatives, and decentralized finance ecosystem services. The organization operates a dedicated venture capital arm known as Gate Ventures, which launched with $100 million in initial funding in 2021 and subsequently raised a $200 million fund in November 2022 to invest in blockchain infrastructure. To support its international operations and anti-money laundering compliance infrastructure, the exchange has established strategic partnerships with recognizable entities including Visa, Coinfirm, and the City of Busan. Through its collaboration with Visa, the platform introduced a dedicated crypto debit card for the European Economic Area, while its trading volumes have been independently verified by Coin Metrics through a trusted volume test. Gate.io was founded in April 2013 by chief executive officer Lin Han.
