ETW (European Transonic Windtunnel GmbH) is a non-profit organization based in Cologne, Germany, that operates, maintains, and develops an advanced high Reynolds number wind tunnel for international aerospace testing. The specialized facility provides critical wind-tunnel test data at actual flight Reynolds numbers, enabling global aircraft manufacturers to accurately simulate flight conditions and mitigate engineering risks during the development of modern transport aircraft. Following the initial completion of its physical construction in 1993, the testing facility was fully commissioned and calibrated for continuous commercial and research operations beginning in 1995. Operating under an intergovernmental Memorandum of Understanding, the entity sustains its operations by offering specialized aerodynamic testing services to international aerospace clients and aeronautical research institutions worldwide. ETW was officially established in 1988 by four European Community Member States acting as its founding entities.
