Sonny Vu

Sonny Vu is the Managing Partner at Alabaster, a venture capital firm focused on early-stage deeptech investments. Before transitioning to venture capital, he founded multiple technology companies, most notably the wearables brand Misfit, which Fossil Group acquired for $260 million. Following this acquisition, he served as President and Chief Technology Officer of Connected Devices at Fossil Group, building upon his earlier entrepreneurial ventures like Elemental Machines, AgaMatrix, and FireSpout. His early career included natural language processing work at Microsoft Research under Kai-Fu Lee, and he previously pursued a doctoral degree in linguistics at MIT under Noam Chomsky after studying mathematics at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Vu currently leverages his extensive background in hardware innovation, remote monitoring, biosensors, and artificial intelligence to oversee a growing portfolio of more than thirty deeptech startups.
