At Wacomet Water (formerly WATERFX) we are reimagining water. Our current water system was designed for a global population of three billion people and by the end of this century we will need clean water for over ten billion people. Our mission is to use technology to develop a new source of fresh water and make access to water affordable and abundant for every human being on the planet. We do this using solar-powered desalination to generate water from an infinite source of salt water and distribute this water via a peer-to-peer distribution platform called Liquid. Our mission is to provide a better, more reliable, 100% sustainable water service to consumers, businesses and cities.
Key people at WATERFX.
WATERFX was founded in 2012 by Aaron Mandell (Founder).
WaterFX (now operating as Wacomet Water) is a pioneering company focused on delivering the world's first 100% sustainable water service through solar-powered desalination technology. It aims to provide affordable, reliable, and abundant fresh water by converting salt water into clean water using renewable energy, targeting consumers, businesses, and cities. The company addresses the critical global challenge of water scarcity by offering an alternative water source that is environmentally sustainable and scalable, especially important as the global population grows beyond 10 billion by the end of the century[1][2][4].
Founded by Aaron Mandell, a technical expert in groundwater hydrology and computational modeling with extensive experience raising over $100 million for energy and water startups, WaterFX emerged from the need to rethink traditional water systems designed for a much smaller global population. Mandell’s background and vision led to the development of solar-powered desalination combined with a peer-to-peer water distribution platform called Liquid. The company began its journey around 2017, initially gaining traction with pilot projects such as a test facility in California’s Central Valley producing pure water from saline agricultural drainage[1][4].
WaterFX rides the critical global trend of sustainable resource management and climate resilience, particularly addressing water scarcity exacerbated by population growth and climate change. The timing is crucial as traditional water infrastructure is aging and insufficient for future demands. Market forces such as increasing regulatory pressure on water use, rising costs of conventional water sourcing, and growing demand for renewable solutions favor WaterFX’s technology. By integrating renewable energy with water production and distribution, WaterFX influences the broader ecosystem by demonstrating scalable, off-grid water solutions that can reduce agricultural and urban water stress[1][2][4].
Looking ahead, WaterFX is positioned to expand its impact by scaling solar desalination technology and its distribution platform to more regions facing water scarcity. Trends shaping its journey include increasing global emphasis on sustainability, advances in renewable energy integration, and growing investment in water infrastructure innovation. Its influence may evolve from a niche technology provider to a key player in global water sustainability, potentially partnering with governments and large utilities to transform water access. Continued innovation and adoption will be critical to overcoming market resistance, especially in traditional agricultural sectors[1][4].
