The Equity Alliance

The Equity Alliance is a Tennessee-based organization building Black political and economic power through voter engagement, legislative advocacy, and leadership cultivation. It employs strategic organizing and direct action to dismantle systemic barriers and foster active civic participation within African American communities across the state.

Co-founded in 2016 by Tequila Johnson and Charlane Oliver, The Equity Alliance emerged from a recognized need for a potent Black-led organizing force in Tennessee. Their insight emphasized direct community empowerment, equipping individuals to influence policy and economic opportunity, driving systemic change through civic action.

The organization serves African American communities and other people of color throughout Tennessee, involving them in decision-making processes. Its core vision is to secure equitable access to political representation and economic prosperity, enabling individuals to fully realize their capabilities. The Equity Alliance strives to transform governing systems toward greater justice and inclusion.
