Perplexity for your mind
Key people at Nessie.
Nessie was founded in 2025 by Anna Zhang (Co-Founder & CEO) and Tiger Wang (Co-Founder & CTO).
Nessie is Perplexity for your mind, turning your scattered AI conversations and notes into a personal knowledge base. It's a thinking partner that lets you instantly search your entire history of ideas, synthesize them into new insights, and watch your knowledge build on itself over time.
Who it's for: AI-native thinkers:founders, researchers, and writers:who believe their best ideas should compound.
We are two Yale CS grads and former Amazon engineers building the tool we needed for ourselves. We combine Anna's research on enhancing LLM reasoning with knowledge graphs, and Tiger's lifelong passion for building products, which started with shipping an Android app with 70k+ downloads at age 13.
Nessie was born from our shared obsession - we were using AI to push the limits of our own thinking, but the current tools couldn't keep up. Brilliant insights were getting lost in endless chat histories, and the context was constantly fragmented.
We realized the problem wasn't just about memory; it was that the medium for AI-native thought didn't exist yet. The chat window is a place to ask questions, not a place to build on ideas.
We're building Nessie to be that medium:your personal context layer, designed to amplify human thinking and give you agency over your own knowledge.
Perplexity AI is an AI-powered conversational search engine that transforms information discovery by combining large language models (LLMs) with real-time web search to deliver accurate, cited answers. Founded in 2022, it serves over 22 million monthly active users and processes hundreds of millions of queries monthly, generating around $200 million in annual recurring revenue as of 2025. Its flagship products include the Perplexity search engine, the Comet AI browser, and premium tiers offering advanced AI models like GPT-4 and Claude. The platform targets users seeking efficient, transparent, and up-to-date answers, addressing the problem of information overload and unreliable search results by providing synthesized, sourced, and conversational responses that enhance research, fact-checking, and everyday knowledge acquisition[1][2][3][6].
Perplexity AI was founded in August 2022 by a team of former researchers from OpenAI, Google, and Meta, including CEO Aravind Srinivas. The founders brought deep expertise in AI and backend systems, aiming to bridge the gap between traditional search engines and AI chatbots by creating an “answer engine” that offers direct, cited answers rather than just links. Early traction came from launching Bird SQL in late 2022, a tool that converted natural language into SQL queries for Twitter data, and quickly evolved into a full conversational search engine. The company has since expanded its product suite and user base rapidly, achieving a $20 billion valuation by 2025 and forming strategic partnerships with companies like PayPal, Airtel, Amazon, and Nvidia[1][3][5].
Perplexity AI rides the wave of conversational AI and next-generation search technologies, addressing the growing demand for efficient, trustworthy, and context-aware information retrieval. The timing is critical as users increasingly seek alternatives to traditional search engines that often return overwhelming or unreliable results. Market forces favor AI-powered tools that combine natural language understanding with real-time data access, transparency, and personalization. Perplexity’s approach influences the broader ecosystem by pushing competitors to enhance source transparency and conversational capabilities, while its partnerships and product innovations contribute to the evolving AI search landscape. Its bid to acquire Google Chrome (though declined) signals ambitions to reshape how users interact with the web[1][2][5].
Looking ahead, Perplexity AI is poised to deepen its integration of multimodal AI tools, expand its global user base, and diversify revenue streams through advertising and enterprise solutions. Trends such as AI democratization, real-time data fusion, and personalized search will shape its journey. Its influence may grow beyond search into broader AI-assisted productivity and creativity tools, potentially redefining how knowledge is accessed and consumed. Perplexity’s mission to make information discovery straightforward and reliable positions it as a key player in the future of AI-powered knowledge systems, continuing to bridge the gap between raw data and actionable insight[1][5][6].
