National Institute of Information and Communications Technology

The National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) is Japan's national research and development agency for information and communications technology. It conducts comprehensive research across critical ICT domains, including advanced electromagnetic studies, innovative networks, cybersecurity, and universal communication systems. NICT was established in 2004 as an Independent Administrative Institution, formed by the merger of the Communications Research Laboratory, dating back to 1896, and the Telecommunications Advancement Organization of Japan. This consolidation unified national efforts in information and communications technology research and development under one entity.
