Leitmotif is an independent venture capital firm based in Palo Alto, California, investing in later-stage startups focused on decarbonization, encompassing electric vehicles, space, advanced battery technologies, and nuclear fusion. The firm functions as a strategic bridge connecting European industrial interests with the U.S. innovation ecosystem. It manages a $300 million inaugural fund, with Volkswagen Group serving as its exclusive limited partner, and has deployed approximately one-third of this capital into around 20 early-stage companies since its quiet launch in late 2023. Volkswagen CEO Oliver Blume publicly underscored the firm's importance in achieving carbon footprint reduction goals during a March 2025 conference. Led by Co-Founders and Managing Partners Jens Wiese and Matt Trevithick, alongside General Partner Claudius Jablonka, Leitmotif was established in 2023.
