Institute for the Promotion of Innovation by Science and Technology in Flanders

The Institute for the Promotion of Innovation by Science and Technology in Flanders (IWT-Flanders) was a regional public institution based in Brussels, Belgium, dedicated to supporting research and development (R&D) and innovation across Flanders. The organization distributed substantial financial grants, offered technology transfer services, and facilitated coordination and networking among innovation players, primarily benefiting small and medium-sized enterprises, large companies, universities, and colleges. Operating with an annual budget of approximately 190 million EUR as of 2002, IWT-Flanders distributed around 300 million euros annually in subsidies to foster diverse innovation projects. Paul Zeeuwts notably served as its president from 1991 to 2009. On January 1, 2016, the agency merged into Flanders Innovation & Entrepreneurship (Agentschap Innoveren & Ondernemen), thereby ceasing independent operations. IWT-Flanders was established in 1991 by the Flemish government.
