Impactive, backed by YCombinator and Higher Ground Labs, was founded in 2017 as a get-out-the-vote tool for Democrats. The Impactive product has since expanded to become a full-service platform allowing any campaign or cause to engage in distributed organizing.
In the 2018 midterms, volunteers contacted over 1 million voters using Impactive. In 2020, we scaled significantly to meet the demand of this unprecedented election cycle. We’ve worked with over 500 clients nationwide, and volunteers have sent over 100 million text messages on behalf of Planned Parenthood, the DCCC, SEIU, Community Change, When We All Vote, Greenpeace, and campaigns up and down the ballot. Our work has been featured in The New York Times, Washington Post, TechCrunch, Fast Company, and many more.
In 2021, Impactive will expand its platform further into nonprofit, advocacy, and additional markets. This will be an exciting time to play a critical role in helping shape the direction for what’s coming next. We will continue to prioritize our progressive values while building a feature-rich platform that will broaden our reach across the impact space.
Impactive (formerly Outvote) is a progressive political and civic technology platform designed to help campaigns, nonprofits, and advocacy groups organize, mobilize, and engage supporters at scale. It offers a comprehensive suite of digital organizing tools including peer-to-peer texting, phone banking, relational organizing, and voter outreach, enabling both grassroots volunteers and large teams to coordinate effectively. Originally launched in 2017 as a get-out-the-vote tool for Democratic campaigns, Impactive has evolved into a full-service platform trusted by over 500 clients nationwide, including Planned Parenthood, the DCCC, SEIU, and Greenpeace, facilitating the sending of over 100 million messages to voters and supporters[1][2][4].
The platform serves progressive campaigns and causes by solving the problem of scalable, distributed volunteer coordination and voter engagement, especially important in high-stakes election cycles. Its cloud-based technology streamlines outreach efforts, making it easier for organizations with limited resources to maximize volunteer impact. Impactive’s growth momentum is marked by rapid scaling during the 2018 and 2020 election cycles and its recent acquisition by ActBlue, which aims to integrate fundraising and outreach into a unified solution for Democratic campaigns[1][2][3].
Impactive was founded in 2017 by Naseem Makiya, who envisioned a digital organizing platform that empowers volunteers to mobilize their personal networks through text, email, and social media, connecting grassroots efforts with established campaign infrastructure. The idea emerged from the need for more effective, scalable tools to support progressive voter outreach. Early traction came during the 2018 midterms when volunteers contacted over 1 million voters using the platform. The company participated in Y Combinator’s Summer 2018 batch and received backing from Higher Ground Labs, a progressive tech incubator. Over time, Impactive expanded beyond its initial get-out-the-vote focus to serve a broader range of advocacy and nonprofit clients across the U.S. and Canada[1][2].
Impactive rides the wave of increasing digitalization in political and civic engagement, where distributed organizing and peer-to-peer communication have become essential for modern campaigns. The timing is critical as campaigns seek cost-effective, scalable tools to mobilize volunteers and voters amid growing political polarization and digital activism. Market forces such as the rise of text-based outreach, remote volunteer coordination, and integrated fundraising platforms favor Impactive’s growth. By enabling smaller campaigns to access sophisticated organizing technology, especially through its integration with ActBlue, Impactive influences the broader ecosystem by democratizing access to digital campaign infrastructure and reinforcing progressive political mobilization[1][3][4].
Looking ahead, Impactive’s integration with ActBlue positions it to become a central hub for progressive digital organizing, combining fundraising and outreach in a seamless experience. Trends such as increased reliance on peer-to-peer texting, data-driven voter engagement, and remote volunteer management will shape its trajectory. Its influence is likely to expand as more campaigns and advocacy groups adopt integrated digital tools to maximize impact. Continued innovation in usability and feature expansion will be key to maintaining its leadership in the civic tech space, reinforcing its mission to empower progressive communities and reinvigorate democracy[3][4].
