Hangzhou National Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone (HHTZ), also known as Hangzhou High-Tech Zone (Binjiang), fosters high-tech innovation and incubates tech enterprises as a key R&D and startup hub in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, China. Spanning 92 square kilometers, the zone supports industries including software, microelectronics, and biotechnology, generating a GDP of 135 billion yuan ($19.4 billion) in 2018. It ranked 3rd nationally among 157 Chinese high-tech zones in 2018 and hosted over 1,100 software and BPO enterprises as of 2013. The zone is home to the headquarters of Alibaba Group and companies like Hangzhou Silan Microelectronics and Utstarcom, alongside R&D centers for Motorola, Nokia, and Siemens. Established by the State Council in March 1990, it was ratified as a state-level zone in March 1991.
