Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin operates a comprehensive non-profit health care system combining clinical patient care, medical education, and research based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The organization functions as the largest research institution in the Milwaukee metropolitan area, conducting nearly 2,000 clinical research studies annually across its acute care hospitals and academic facilities. Alongside its medical and pharmacy schools, the institution enrolls more than 1,500 students across its graduate biomedical sciences and healthcare education programs. The integrated network expanded its regional footprint by incorporating Froedtert South and the former United Hospital System, while historical leadership includes former president T. Michael Bolger. The Medical College of Wisconsin traces its roots to the 1893 founding of the Wisconsin College of Physicians and Surgeons, while the namesake hospital was established in 1980 through benefactor Kurtis R.
