Fison

Fisons plc was a British multinational corporation based in Ipswich, Suffolk, England, that manufactured pharmaceuticals, scientific instruments, and agricultural chemicals. Operating as a public limited company, the enterprise was actively listed on the London Stock Exchange and formerly served as a major constituent of the FTSE 100 index. The business experienced significant historical growth, reaching £100,000 in annual sales by 1840 before expanding its commercial operations into horticultural products and pesticides. Following a strategic leadership transition in 1992 under Chairman Patrick Egan and CEO Cedric Scroggs, the firm divested its over-the-counter drugs division. The organization ultimately ceased independent operations in 1995 when it was acquired by the global pharmaceutical company Rhone-Poulenc Rorer, Inc. The company originally evolved from a late 18th-century flour mill and was formally incorporated in 1843 by founders James Fison and Edward Packard.
