Spotify's Listening Activity, which became broadly available in early February 2026, allows users to share their real-time listening status in Spotify Mess
Spotify has rolled out its anticipated "Listening Activity" feature, starting January 7, 2026, with a full launch expected by early February. This new addition allows users to share their real-time listening habits directly within Spotify Messages. Whether you are deep into a new album or just finished a podcast, your contacts, with whom you have an existing chat, can see what you are enjoying.
The feature is entirely opt-in, granting users complete control over their privacy through their settings. Friends can tap on a shared song to instantly play it, add it to their own collections, or react with emojis, fostering a more interactive and shared musical experience. Complementing this is "Request to Jam," enabling users to initiate live, synchronous listening sessions with friends.
Listening Activity is accessible to all Spotify users, free or premium. However, initiating a "Jam" session requires a Premium subscription, which, as of February 2026, costs $12.99 for individuals. This social integration marks a significant step for Spotify, deepening connections between listeners and enhancing discoverability within personal networks. It transforms passive listening into an engaging, communal activity, reinforcing Spotify's role as a social hub for audio.
