Zia Word

Zia Word is a General Partner at MatterBlock based in San Francisco, California, where he leads pre-seed to Series A investments in emerging technology sectors. Before joining MatterBlock, he served as an investor at Andreessen Horowitz and worked as an operator within several early-stage deep technology startups. Word currently oversees more than $200 million in assets under management across a growing portfolio of over 15 companies, which includes a blockchain protocol that was acquired by Coinbase in 2024. In March 2026, he directed a $15 million seed funding round for an artificial intelligence and blockchain enterprise, shortly after speaking at Consensus 2025 and publishing his whitepaper on decentralized artificial intelligence. Equipped with a computer science degree from Stanford University, Word focuses his current investments on advancing scalable blockchain architecture, Web3 applications, and deep tech infrastructure.
