Zack Abbott

Zack Abbott is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of ZBiotics, a direct-to-consumer biotechnology company based in the San Francisco Bay Area. He holds a doctorate in microbiology and immunology from the University of Michigan, alongside dual bachelor's degrees in immunology and classical art and archaeology from UC Berkeley. Prior to establishing ZBiotics in 2016, Abbott worked across both academia and the private sector, focusing on clinical trial design, HIV vaccine research, and novel antibiotics development. Under his leadership, the startup launched its proprietary engineered probiotic in 2019, secured a $10.2 million seed funding round led by Afore Capital in 2021, and expanded its retail distribution to major grocery chains including Whole Foods. His current professional focus centers on leveraging synthetic biology to develop advanced consumer health products that actively metabolize harmful alcohol byproducts.
