William Sawyer

William Sawyer is a Partner at OrbiMed Advisors based in New York City, where he focuses on early- to late-stage investments in biotechnology and healthcare. Promoted to his current role in 2023, he helps manage a portfolio of over 200 companies for the firm, which holds more than $20 billion in assets under management. Before joining OrbiMed, Sawyer served as an investor at Frazier Healthcare Partners and held operational positions at Genentech. He holds a bachelor's degree from Princeton University and an MBA from Harvard Business School, and has been involved with notable exits including Gilead's $12 billion acquisition of Kite Pharma in 2017. After recently leading a $150 million Series C round for a gene therapy startup in early 2025, Sawyer continues to focus his investments on emerging therapeutics, oncology, and rare diseases.
