William Gao

William Gao is the Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer at Trata, a Y Combinator Winter 2025 startup, and a machine learning PhD student at the University of Chicago. He previously earned a Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science, Statistics, and Mathematics, followed by a Master of Engineering in Computer Science from Cornell University in 2020. Prior to founding his current enterprise, Gao gained applied industry experience serving as a Research Scientist Intern at Meta Reality Labs, the NVIDIA Deep Imagination Lab, and Adobe Research. His academic research, advised by professors Michael Maire and Karthik Sridharan, explores theoretical machine learning and online learning algorithms with a specific focus on regret bounds and 3D object manipulation. Gao currently focuses his technical efforts on advancing computer vision, computer graphics, and generative modeling for both 2D and 3D data applications.
