Valentin Sulzer is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Ionworks, a venture-backed cleantech and battery simulation software company. Before launching his current enterprise, he developed and launched PyBaMM, a leading open-source battery simulation platform that provides critical computational tools for researchers and commercial developers operating in the energy sector. Sulzer, a computational mathematician, earned his Doctor of Philosophy in Mathematics from the University of Oxford, where he built his core domain expertise in complex mathematical modeling and advanced computational simulation techniques. He subsequently dedicated four years to specialized engineering research, advancing the study of battery chemistry and electrochemistry simulation at both the University of Michigan and Carnegie Mellon University. Today, his primary professional focus centers on scaling Ionworks to commercialize these open-source technologies and democratize advanced battery engineering tools for energy infrastructure hardware developers globally.
