Thierry Cruanes is the co-founder and Chief Technical Officer of Snowflake, a cloud data platform company he helped launch in 2012. As a lead database architect, he engineered the platform's foundational architecture that separates compute from storage, guiding the enterprise from a stealth startup to one of the largest software initial public offerings in history. Before establishing Snowflake, Cruanes spent 13 years as an Architect at Oracle from 1999 to 2012, where he specialized in database systems and parallel execution. His earlier career includes software engineering roles at the IBM European Center of Applied Mathematics between 1995 and 1999, and at Sema Group from 1991 to 1995, after graduating from Université Pierre et Marie Curie. Cruanes leverages his extensive engineering background to maintain his current focus on advancing cloud-based data infrastructure and driving technical strategy in query optimization.
