Stephen Unterberger

Stephen Unterberger is a Managing Director at Carrick Capital Partners in the San Francisco Bay Area, where he leads lower middle-market investments in enterprise software and technology companies. Promoted to his current role in early 2022, he helps manage over $1 billion in total firm assets and recently co-led a 2024 investment in an undisclosed cybersecurity SaaS platform. Prior to this, he served as a Principal at Francisco Partners from 2007 to 2013, executing enterprise software buyouts, following earlier finance and investment roles at JMI Equity and Goldman Sachs. He holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BA from Duke University. With over two decades of professional experience in private equity and technology investing, Unterberger currently focuses on scaling B2B software, cloud infrastructure, and IT services firms through strategic growth and control investments.
