Stephen Chambers

Dr. Stephen Chambers is a General Partner at SOSV, where he currently oversees the IndieBio NY program. He initially joined the firm as Managing Director of IndieBio in 2020 before being promoted to his current partnership role two years later. Previously, Chambers spent 17 years as a founding scientist and the Director of Gene Expression at Vertex Pharmaceuticals, where he focused on pioneering rational drug design strategies. Before transitioning into venture capital, he served as the Royal Society Entrepreneur in Residence at Imperial College London to address industry skills gaps and commercialize academic research. Throughout his three-decade career, the molecular biology PhD has co-founded several life sciences organizations, including the BioStart accelerator, the innovation center SynbiCITE, and biomedical research firm Abpro. His current focus centers on biotech acceleration, synthetic biology investments, and the commercialization of early-stage life sciences research.
