Solomon H. Snyder is a Professor of Neuroscience, Pharmacology, and Psychiatry at Johns Hopkins Medicine and the Director of Drug Discovery at the Lieber Institute for Brain Development in Baltimore, Maryland. He earned his medical degree from Georgetown University before completing his residency at Johns Hopkins and serving as a research associate at the National Institutes of Health between 1963 and 1965. Throughout his academic tenure, he authored 72 books, received 10 honorary doctorates, and founded the Department of Neuroscience at Johns Hopkins in 1980, directing the division until 2006. In the commercial biotechnology sector, he co-founded several acquired or publicly traded enterprises, including Nova Pharmaceuticals, Guilford Pharmaceuticals, and the NASDAQ-listed company Cerecor. His extensive career focuses on pioneering neuropharmacology research, specifically the identification of opioid receptors and the advancement of psychoactive drug discovery mechanisms.
