Shawn Abbott is a Partner and Co-founder at Inovia Capital based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Before launching the venture capital firm in 2007, he served as President and Chief Technology Officer of Rainbow Technologies, an internet security company that achieved a half-billion dollar exit. He holds the world's first patent for the USB key alongside other online security inventions, and he earned a physics degree from the University of Alberta before completing post-graduate studies at Stanford University. As an investor, Abbott has directed capital into numerous early-stage technology startups and held board seats at companies including Top Hat, Certn, and Solium, which Morgan Stanley acquired for over C$1 billion in 2019. His current focus centers on guiding portfolio corporate governance, coaching executive leadership teams, and structuring early-stage technology investments across the broader Canadian startup ecosystem.
