Ryo Umezawa

Ryo Umezawa is the Vice President of India Operations at Mercari India, currently based in Bangalore, India. He originally joined the global e-commerce enterprise Mercari in March 2018 and previously served as the Vice President of Human Resources for the Japan Region. In this executive capacity, Umezawa managed human resources, general affairs, and organizational culture while guiding the firm through its initial public offering and subsequent expansion. He also built the foundational human resources infrastructure for the successful launch of the financial technology subsidiaries Merpay and Mercoin. In April 2025, he transitioned to his current role to oversee the Bangalore development center and drive the company's expansion within the broader Indian startup ecosystem. Today, Umezawa primarily focuses on scaling technology organizations, managing global operations, and executing human resources strategies during periods of rapid corporate growth.
