Before transitioning to venture capital, he served as the 24th Secretary of the United States Army, managing an annual budget exceeding $150 billion and overseeing nearly one million military and civilian personnel. His private sector experience includes a tenure as Vice President of the Sustainment Group at Lockheed Martin, where he directed critical operations for the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter program. Earlier in his career, McCarthy worked as a special assistant to former Defense Secretary Robert Gates and served in combat operations with the 75th Ranger Regiment in Afghanistan.
