Ryan Johnston

Ryan Johnston is the co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of Waypoint Transit, an artificial intelligence startup focused on urban planning automation. He holds both a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University. Prior to his current venture, Johnston worked on chip design synthesis computer-aided design software at Apple before developing real-time transit signage technology for his hometown. In 2024, he launched Waypoint Transit, which subsequently secured backing from Y Combinator as part of its Winter 2025 batch and expanded its operations to serve multiple municipal governments. The two-person company is currently recruiting a founding software engineer to support its active growth phase. Johnston’s current focus centers on leveraging his hardware and software engineering expertise to reduce municipal infrastructure planning costs and accelerate project timelines through automated workflows.
