Roman Engeler

Roman Engeler is the Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer at atla, an early-stage artificial intelligence startup that was selected to participate in the Y Combinator Summer 2023 cohort. Concurrently, he serves as an AI safety researcher at the Machine Learning for AI Alignment & Safety (MATS) program, where he focuses on responsible model development and alignment methodologies. Prior to his current entrepreneurial ventures, Engeler earned a Master of Science in Robotics from ETH Zurich, providing him with deep technical expertise in autonomous systems and machine learning. Furthermore, his rigorous academic background includes additional specialized study and technical research engagements at both Stanford University and Imperial College London. Today, Engeler focuses his professional efforts on bridging advanced robotics engineering with formal alignment research to ensure the safe, responsible development of next-generation artificial intelligence systems.
