Rob Timms

Rob Timms is the Co-Founder and CTO of Ionworks, a battery simulation software startup based in Oxford, England. Prior to launching the company, he earned a PhD in mathematics from the University of Oxford and worked in battery research commercialization at the Faraday Institution. Alongside co-founder Valentin Sulzer, Timms serves as a core developer of PyBaMM, an open-source battery modeling package that forms the technical foundation of their current enterprise. The founding team leverages over 20 years of collective experience in physics-based simulations to accelerate commercial battery research and development, recently participating in the Y Combinator S24 cohort. Bringing 6 years of dedicated coding experience to his executive role, his current focus centers on combining the analytical and numerical modeling of lithium-ion cell thermal and mechanical behavior with scalable backend software engineering infrastructure.
