Rob Hopfner

Rob Hopfner is a Managing Partner at Pivotal bioVenture Partners, where he focuses on drug discovery and development investments. Before joining the firm in 2017, he served as a Managing Director at Bay City Capital and held business development and investment roles at DuPont/Merck Pharmaceuticals. Throughout his venture capital career, Hopfner has invested in more than 25 companies, leading to multiple public listings such as Arcutis Therapeutics and Vaxcyte, alongside acquisitions by pharmaceutical corporations including Pfizer and Novartis. He currently holds seats on the boards of directors for several biotechnology firms, including Evommune, Plexium, and Rallybio. A pharmacist-scientist by training, he completed a post-doctoral fellowship at Harvard Medical School and received the Governor General of Canada Gold Medal Award for his research. His current focus remains on advancing novel medicines from early-stage discovery through commercialization and public markets.
