Rob Carlson is the Seattle-based Managing Director of Planetary Technologies, formerly Bioeconomy Capital, and Principal at Biodesic, a strategy and engineering consulting firm. He earned a doctorate in physics from Princeton University in 1997 before serving as a Research Fellow at The Molecular Sciences Institute in Berkeley until 2002. From 2003 to 2008, Carlson worked as a Senior Associate at Bio-Economic Research Associates, where he analyzed emerging technologies related to global pandemics, vaccines, and biofuels. In addition to his corporate leadership, he serves as an Affiliate Professor at the University of Washington and advises organizations including the United Nations, the OECD, and various Fortune 100 companies. As an author and frequent international speaker, his current work focuses on advancing biological technologies, developing microfluidic systems, and establishing quantitative metrics to measure global biotech progress.
