Rafe Furst is the Managing Partner at Indie Ventures, an early-stage venture capital firm based in New York City, New York. He previously co-founded the startup studio Betaworks and launched the messaging application GroupMe, which was acquired by Skype and Microsoft in 2011. Throughout his career, Furst has completed more than 100 early-stage investments, building a portfolio that includes recognizable technology companies like Perplexity AI and Replicate. He is currently raising a new $50 million fund targeting developer tools, which is scheduled to launch in the first quarter of 2026. Furst holds a bachelor's degree in computer science from Columbia University and initially began his career in software engineering. His current investment focus centers on advising and funding pre-seed and seed-stage technology startups operating across the artificial intelligence, consumer internet, and frontier tech sectors.
