Philip Astley-Sparke

Philip Astley-Sparke is a Boston-based biotechnology executive currently serving as a Venture Partner at Forbion and the Executive Chairman and co-founder of Replimune. He previously served as President and Chief Executive Officer of BioVex Inc., where he led the company through its acquisition by Amgen for up to $1 billion in 2011. Following this exit, he joined uniQure as President and later Chairman from 2016 to 2021, establishing the company's United States infrastructure and building the world's largest gene therapy manufacturing facility. His early career included qualifying as a Chartered Accountant at Arthur Andersen and working as a healthcare investment banker at Chase H&Q. Recently appointed as an Independent Director at enGene Holdings in 2025, his ongoing focus remains on guiding clinical-stage gene therapy and oncolytic vaccine developers from early research through commercialization.
