Paul Newsom

Paul Newsom is the inaugural Executive Director of the Butler Angel Network, an early-stage investment initiative based at Butler University. Prior to assuming this leadership role, he served as a Managing Director at VentureSouth, where he successfully managed regional angel groups and directed capital into numerous early-stage venture investments. Alongside his professional venture capital career, Newsom has built an extensive academic background, working as a Professor of Finance at the University of South Carolina Aiken. In his current capacity as an alumnus returning to Butler, he is establishing the operational framework for the new network, initiating investor conversations immediately ahead of a formal pre-launch in spring 2026 and a scheduled inaugural pitch event in summer 2026. Ultimately, his career bridges academic finance and practical entrepreneurship, maintaining a primary focus on early-stage venture capital and student-focused investment education.
