He launched Concrete Ventures in 2019 with $15 million from the Nova Scotia government and a $500,000 commitment from the New Brunswick Innovation Foundation. During its first year, the fund backed eight regional startups that collectively raised over $6 million in total capital. Hankinson currently focuses on providing pre-seed capital and mentorship to emerging information technology companies throughout the Atlantic Canadian startup ecosystem.
