Nick Winter

Nick Winter is currently an artificial intelligence safety researcher at Gray Swan AI. Prior to his current role, he served as the co-founder and chief executive officer of CodeCombat, an open-source multiplayer coding game backed by Y Combinator that has reached over 20 million learners globally. Before launching CodeCombat in the YC W14 batch, Winter co-founded Skritter, an educational technology application designed to teach users how to write Chinese and Japanese characters. Alongside his entrepreneurial ventures, he authored the book The Motivation Hacker, which explores strategies for building personal drive and has sold 17,000 copies. He recently transitioned away from his executive duties at CodeCombat to dedicate his professional efforts entirely to the field of artificial intelligence. Winter's career reflects a sustained focus on scaling educational technology platforms and advancing technical research within the AI safety sector.
