Nic Lane

Nic Lane is the co-founder of Flower Labs and a Full Professor in Machine Learning Systems at the University of Cambridge, based in Cambridge, United Kingdom. Prior to assuming his current dual roles, he spent more than twelve years conducting industrial artificial intelligence research across several prominent global technology organizations. His corporate background includes significant technical tenures at Microsoft Research and Nokia Bell Labs. In 2018, he co-founded and served as the head of the Samsung AI Center in Cambridge, where he managed a dedicated research laboratory consisting of fifty staff members. His extensive academic career also features previous faculty positions at the University of Oxford and University College London. Lane currently focuses his professional efforts on advancing machine learning systems and open-source federated learning frameworks through both academic research and commercial enterprise development.
