Niama El Bassunie is the Managing Partner at The Baobab Network, currently based in Casablanca, Morocco. She previously founded and served as the Chief Executive Officer of WaystoCap, an online business-to-business marketplace connecting African enterprises to global trade networks, which notably became the first Moroccan startup to be backed by Y Combinator. Under her leadership, the platform piloted in Casablanca in 2018 and expanded to Benin in 2019, ultimately raising over $4 million in venture funding before being acquired in 2021. As a CFA charterholder and past participant at the World Economic Forum in Davos, she possesses extensive domain expertise in cross-border trading, digital marketing, and emerging market technology infrastructure. Today, El Bassunie focuses her professional efforts on investing in and strategically advising early-stage technology companies across the African continent and broader international markets.
