Monica Brand Engel

Monica Brand Engel is the Co-founder and Managing Partner at Quona Capital, where she leads the firm's investment strategy across Africa, the Middle East, and cross-border markets. Prior to establishing Quona, she served as the founding Managing Director of Accion’s Frontier Investments Group and helped launch a $50 million multi-bank lending intermediary in Silicon Valley. Her earlier career includes roles at Calvert Ventures, Anthuri Catalysts, and Gentera Bank, where she contributed to operations preceding its 2007 initial public offering. She holds an MBA and an MA in Education from Stanford University, alongside a BA in Economics from Williams College. Engel currently serves on the boards of Khazna and Wasoko, having previously held board seats at Azimo and Zoona prior to their respective acquisitions. Her ongoing investment focus centers on scaling financial inclusion and fintech solutions throughout emerging markets.
