Michael Mahan

Michael Mahan is the Investment Director at Caterpillar Ventures, based in Atlanta, Georgia. Prior to this role, he spent nearly a decade at Stanley Black & Decker, where he was a founding member of the Stanley Ventures corporate investment unit in 2016 and served as its Managing Director from 2019 until his departure in 2025. During his tenure, he led early investments in startups such as FreeWire Technologies and Sunflower Labs in 2017, earning formal recognition as a Global Corporate Venturing Top 100 Rising Star. Mahan began his professional career in consulting with firms including Arcadia Healthcare Solutions after graduating from Brown University with a degree in mathematical economics in 2007.
