Michael Dean

Michael Dean is a Founding Partner at AgFunder, an agrifood technology venture capital firm based in San Francisco, California. Since launching the firm's initial fund in late 2017, he has helped grow its total assets under management to nearly $300 million across more than 100 portfolio companies on four continents. Dean also co-founded AgFunder News, an industry publication with approximately 100,000 global subscribers, and utilizes the firm's proprietary Gaia AI platform to source early-stage deals. Prior to his venture capital career, he spent over 25 years working in agriculture operations, carbon markets, and environmental law, having earned his LL.B and LL.M degrees from the University of Sydney. His current investment strategy focuses on pre-seed through Series B startups developing climate, biotechnology, and robotics solutions to improve global agricultural sustainability and productivity.
