Michael Calvey

Michael Calvey is the global Chairman of Baring Ventures, a private equity firm advising funds with approximately $5.5 billion in assets under management. He began his career at Salomon Brothers and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development before co-founding Baring Vostok in 1997, an investment vehicle that raised $3.7 billion and backed over 80 emerging market companies. His portfolio has yielded eight public offerings, including major technology and financial entities such as Yandex, Tinkoff Bank, Revolut, and Kaspi, which exceeds a $20 billion market capitalization. Following a complete divestment of all Russian holdings in April 2024, his firm restructured to focus entirely on international venture capital and private equity investments across the global fintech and consumer technology sectors. Additionally, Calvey serves as a director of online bank Plata and recently authored the memoir Odyssey Moscow.
