Max Brunsfeld

Max Brunsfeld is the co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of Zed Industries, a developer tools startup based in San Francisco, California. Before launching Zed, he worked as a software engineer at Meta, where he focused on infrastructure tools, following earlier engineering roles at Heroku and Salesforce. Under his technical direction, Zed developed a Rust-based code editor that has accumulated millions of downloads and secured over $100 million in total funding, including a $75 million Series A round led by Sequoia Capital in August 2024. Brunsfeld is an active open-source contributor with thousands of GitHub followers, and he recently presented on collaborative editing technologies at RustConf 2025 following the release of Zed 1.0. As a self-taught programmer, his current focus remains on advancing systems-level software development and building distributed developer tools for the broader engineering community.
