Matthias Kalbus

Dr. Matthias Kalbus is an Investment Director at Technologiegründerfonds Sachsen (TGFS) and SIB Innovations- und Beteiligungsgesellschaft mbH, based in Dresden, Saxony, Germany. Before joining TGFS in 2013, he spent over a decade managing corporate financing for technology startups and mid-sized firms at Ostsächsische Sparkasse Dresden. He holds a PhD in experimental biochemistry from the University of Tübingen, where he built a specialized laboratory and completed postdoctoral research, following earlier studies at TU Braunschweig. He currently oversees seed to Series B investments from a €60 million venture fund, writing checks between €100,000 and €5.6 million for early-stage technology product innovations across the Saxon ecosystem. His notable portfolio involvement includes backing prominent technology startups such as watttron with a $3 million venture round, Sunmaxx with a $4 million round, and Kopernikus Automotive with $3 million.
