Matt Varughese

Matt Varughese is currently an Investor at Spex Capital, where he evaluates and allocates capital to pre-seed and seed-stage startups. He holds a first-class degree in Mathematics from Cambridge University and began his professional career as a derivatives trader at Goldman Sachs before transitioning into software development. Varughese previously served as the Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of Drover, where he managed a 30-person engineering team across London and Lisbon and helped the mobility company raise £30 million prior to its 2020 acquisition by Cazoo. His technical background also includes working on machine learning applications at Monolith AI, conducting quantum computing research at Oxford University, and completing technology entrepreneurship coursework at Stanford University. He currently focuses his efforts on advising and investing in early-stage technology companies operating within the healthcare, artificial intelligence, and mobility sectors.
