Matt Ball

Matt Ball is the Managing Partner and co-founder of Oak Machine, an early-stage venture capital firm based in San Francisco, California. Before establishing his own fund, he worked as an investor at Initialized Capital alongside Garry Tan, following an early career focused on operations and product management at several different technology startups. The Stanford University alumnus has managed more than $50 million in total investments since inception, and he recently launched the $35 million Oak Machine Fund II in the first quarter of 2025. His firm maintains a portfolio of over 20 companies, including a recent March 2026 investment in the emerging artificial intelligence startup CodeForge. Ball currently focuses on providing capital and operational guidance to pre-seed and seed-stage founders building scalable businesses across the artificial intelligence, developer tools, financial technology, and enterprise software sectors.
