Martin Casado is a General Partner at Andreessen Horowitz based in San Francisco, California, where he leads early investments in enterprise technology. Prior to joining the venture capital firm in 2016, he co-founded and served as Chief Technology Officer of Nicira Networks, a software-defined networking pioneer that VMware acquired for $1.26 billion in 2012. Following the acquisition, he transitioned to Senior Vice President and General Manager of VMware's Networking and Security Business Unit, successfully scaling the division to a $600 million annual revenue run rate. His earlier career included cybersecurity and intelligence community networking research at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, and he holds a doctorate and a master's degree in computer science from Stanford University. Today, his venture capital practice leverages his extensive technical background to focus on artificial intelligence, network infrastructure, and cybersecurity startups.
