Komal Ahmad is the Founder of Copia, a Y Combinator-backed technology company that uses advanced matching algorithms to redirect surplus food to individuals in need. Before launching this social impact venture, she graduated with honors from UC Berkeley and worked as an account technology strategist at Google. Ahmad recognized that hunger is fundamentally a logistics problem rather than a scarcity issue after observing campus dining halls discarding excess food due to liability concerns. Under her leadership, Copia has successfully diverted over 6.5 million pounds of food from landfills and delivered more than 5.4 million meals, projecting over $21 million in savings for participating businesses and nonprofits. For her entrepreneurial initiatives, she has been named to the Forbes 30 Under 30 list, featured in Fast Company magazine, and honored with the prestigious Nelson Mandela Humanitarian Award.
