Kevin Hu works on the data observability product team at Datadog, based in Boston, Massachusetts. He previously served as the Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Metaplane, a data quality platform that raised over $22 million from investors including Khosla Ventures before being acquired by Datadog in February 2025. Under his leadership, the Y Combinator-backed startup scaled to serve hundreds of enterprise customers, providing automated monitoring tools for data engineering and analytics teams. Prior to his entrepreneurial career, Hu earned a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he researched machine learning and data visualization at MIT CSAIL and published the Sherlock data type detection engine. His current focus centers on integrating advanced data observability capabilities into large enterprise software ecosystems to prevent pipeline failures and ensure strict data integrity.
